Q: If my dog is currently getting Omega-3s in his or her food, should I still supplement Canine Omega Benefits®?
A: As with many human foods, dog food companies will often add a nominal amount of Omega-3s into your dog’s diet, often in other forms than the active EPA and DHA. Your veterinarian recommended Canine Omega Benefits for your dog because they do not believe he or she is getting a sufficient amount of EPA and DHA from his or her diet.
Q: Can the capsules be punctured or cut?
A: There is no contraindication in puncturing or cutting the capsule. VRS recommends ensuring the entire contents are expressed and mixed into the food or other treats. Ideally, the contents should be consumed within two hours of opening the capsule. Please dispose of any remaining capsule once it is pierced.
Q: How long does it take to see results in my dog?
A: Depending on how Omega-3 depleted your dog is, you may start to see results in as little as 1 or 2 weeks. On average it may take 6 to 12 weeks to see the full effects of the product.
Q: Are there any side effects my dog may experience?
A: Omega-3 fatty acids are a very safe and effective treatment for your pets. Dogs with known gastrointestinal or pancreatic issues, should be titrated up to the recommended dose. Dogs that have never consumed omega-3 fatty acids may lack the pancreatic enzyme that breaks down Omega-3 fatty acids and may be sensitive to an increase in this dietary fat. As a result, some may experience loose stool or diarrhea for the first week or two.
