Steve Mehler, DVM, DACVS

Dr. Steve Mehler received his DVM degree from the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002, graduating with honors. He completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery, as well as a residency in small animal surgery, at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. He spent the following three years as a part of the faculty at Michigan State University and split his time between soft tissue surgery and interventional radiology. Dr. Mehler is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. 

Dr. Mehler’s research and clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery, interventional radiology, and surgical diseases of the extrahepatic biliary tract in dogs and cats. His work has been published in many textbooks on surgical diseases of cats and dogs as well as of exotic species.


Kevin Shanley, DVM, DACVD

Dr. Kevin Shanley is a graduate of the School of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University in Indiana. He completed his residency in dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania and wa​s an assistant professor of veterinary dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania for seven years.  He has been a veterinary dermatologist in private specialty practices in the Philadelphia area since 1993. He is a board certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology and a member of the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association, the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology and the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Shanley has lectured nationally and internationally on a variety of topics related to practicing veterinary dermatology. He has published numerous research studies and clinical investigative reports in the Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association, the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Veterinary Dermatology, and other scientific journals. He collaborated on the identification, characterization and inheritance patterns of the first cases of Canine Benign Familial Pemphigus.


Craig Clifford, DVM, MS, DACVIM

Dr. Craig Clifford is the Director of Clinical Studies for Hope Veterinary Specialists. He graduated from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine and received an MS degree in Animal Science/Virology from the University of Delaware. After completing an internship and a medical oncology residency at the University of Pennsylvania, he became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology) in 2003. He joined Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in 2002 as a medical oncologist and Director of Clinical Research.

Dr. Clifford is a well-renowned oncologist who has authored/co-authored over 50 papers and book chapters. He was responsible for the creation of Veterinary Cancer Society‘s resident review session and the Northeast Veterinary Co-operative Oncology Group. He is a frequent lecturer at major veterinary meetings in the USA and abroad and will participate in Hope VS sponsored symposiums. Dr. Clifford has served on the VCS executive board, ACVIM Exam Rating Committee, Residency Training and Credentials Committee, ACVIM Strategic Planning Committee, Oncology Pathology Working Group, Co-chair of the Standards of Excellence in Residency Education Task Force and Examiner for the Australian Scientist’s Oncology Specialty Exam.


Mitch Robbins, DVM, DACVS, DACCT

Dr. Robbins received his DVM from University of Tennessee and completed an internship and residency from Animal Medical Center in NY. He has lectured on veterinary surgery at the ACVS Scientific Symposium and the Chicago Veterinary Conference. His teaching experience includes intensive postgraduate courses in hepatobiliary, neurological and gastrointestinal surgery in dogs and cats at the Animal Medical Center in New York. Dr. Robbins also donates his time to provide surgical consultations for the Shedd Aquarium, Lincoln Park Zoo and numerous rescue organizations.
